About Mr. Hoaks

Mr. Hoaks began studying drums in 1961 at age 10 from Therman Frock and Bones Bacon. He played in grade school and high school band and held 1st chair from 6th grade through high school.

 

He earned 3 gold medals in IHSA State Competition and one silver for an ensemble he wrote.

 

Mr. Hoaks has played with many local groups and worked as a session drummer for rock, blues, and country artists.

 

He returned to teaching three years ago and instructs in note value, structure, and theory. His students have also won gold medals as a result of his tutelage.

 

He has openings for students wanting to learn snare and drumset ranging from precision snare to jazz set styles.
